Having lived through a global pandemic, comfort as a term has been redefined. We were all confined to our homes for working, relaxing, exercising and much more which meant our clothes had to work harder than ever before. Comfort was key, and comfort remains key as our ways of working have now shifted.
With working from home now being a permanent fixture in our corporate lives, our wardrobes must adapt to this change. That is where loungewear steps in. Whether you have a desk job or a more physically active one, the function of your staple garments has most likely changed. Where once there were suits, crisp shirts and blouses, there are now wide leg trousers, cosy knitwear and stylish matching sets. This is the new normal.
Despite this, it is good to keep in mind that wearing your usual sweats or pyjamas may impact your productivity and wellbeing, as we associate these clothes with relaxation which can result into laziness and demotivation. Instead, we recommend keeping a ‘working’ wardrobe to differentiate between work and relaxation, but this certainly does not mean you need to sit there in a tight, uncomfortable suit and ‘that’ shirt with the itchy neckline.
When working or studying from home we now have the freedom to wear whatever we choose. You can opt for something comfortable and presentable which doesn’t distract you from the tasks in hand, increasing your focus and productivity. You no longer have to worry about whether your hair has stayed in place from 6am this morning or if your shirt is now severely creased from sitting down for hours on end. Ultimately this shift in our working lives offers us more mental space and creative freedom to focus on what matters most to you..
However, when our Founder, Olivia, was researching the current loungewear market she was disheartened by the poor quality and lack of style present which resulted in the birth of Roekate:
‘Our loungewear aims to redefine the relationship between timeless style and long-lasting comfort. The ethics and sustainability of our garments is something we believe should come as standard and not be treated as a groundbreaking achievement.’
Roekate aims to redress this issue, exclusively working with premium fibres which perform like a second skin to provide uncompromising, butterfly-soft comfort. All of our fabrics are either natural or recycled and the dyes are naturally derived to look after all skin types, without the need for harsh chemicals. We have purposely opted for a simple, neutral colour palette to ensure our garments stand the test of time and are complementary to your favourite wardrobe staples.
Whether you are working or relaxing, your wardrobe should be the principle of comfort, whilst delivering on style, ethics and elegance. It is our philosophy that your clothes should work as hard as you do.
